BIO

Alicia Melonie Jones is a highly skilled creative business woman residing on Jagera country, SE QLD.  Alicia’s professional practice investigates modes and methods of knowledge exchange and acceptable violence perpetuated within the Australian narrative.  Alicia’s body of work stems from the exploration into her cultural heritage (Ben Lomond/Swanport TAS/Australian) and the drive to wake up the mainstream population.

With formative years in Hospitality and Commercial Property marketing, since 2004, Alicia has worked in the Queensland CCD sector as producer/facilitator across Cultural Event Management, Education, Arts.  Alicia is a certified Trainer with supporting tertiary qualifications in Creative Industries, Early Childhood Education and Business.  Alicia currently studies a Diploma in Counselling with the Australian Institute of Professional Counsellors.

Alicia has represented on the Regional Arts Development Fund Committee, Ipswich and is an assessor for Regional Arts Australia.  Producer highlights include contracts with Major Brisbane Festivals (2009/10), Jarjums Coordinator  (Dreaming Festival 2011), Associate Producer Festival 2018 (Gold Coast Commonwealth Games 2018),  First Nations Producer for state-wide regional arts conference Arts Ablaze (Oct 2019).

Alicia works regularly as a Teaching Artist within Early Years - Adult education and has a studio at The Paint Factory (Yeronga).

​

The basis of Alicia’s creative practice is physical theatre training with OZFRANK Theatre Company (2004+).  Under the tutelage of seminal choreographer and directors Jacqui Carroll and John Nobbs, Alicia has built and defined a national reputation as a performer, and teacher of the Nobbs Suzuki Praxis.  Alicia uses creative practice to engage learners and analyse/embed critical theory across age and access spectrums.

Highlights of Alicia’s performance career include ensemble dancer in multi-award winning show “Evangeline” with Little Dove Theatre Art (2015/17/19), residencies at MOONAH MOVES Moonah Arts Centre (TAS 2018), Home of the Arts - performing detention series and youth program facilitator (2016-18), the State Library of Queensland (07-10) and The Dreaming Festival (09-10).  Alicia was commissioned by the National Gallery of Australia (10) and selected as part of the Australian Korean International Cultural Exchange (2017/19), Fetterfield Performance Festival (Singapore 2007) and exist in 08, LIVE ART Festival (Brisbane).

Since 2007, Alicia has presented visual arts works at the Judith Wright Centre of Contemporary Art (Brisbane), Metro Arts (Brisbane), The Arts Factory (Brisbane), Robina Art Gallery (Not Just Dots...), Gold Coast Art Gallery (South Stradbroke Island Artist Camp 2015 & 2017) and the Lorraine Pilgrim Gallery with Gold Coast Indigenous Arts Collective (2019) and is currently mentored in oil painting by the esteemed Gordon Hookey.

2021 sees Alicia unifying her solo series performing detention: breaking cycles of violence with a Metro Arts residency in FEB and Blue Sky Residency with Placemakers GC in MARCH.
